Update on Small Grains

We wanted to give you an update on the proposed disposal of Small Grains open space by Sevenoaks District Council.
A final total of 80 letters of objection were sent from residents, including one signed by 34 children. Objections were also submitted by the Parish Council, all three District Councillors, the KCC Councillor and CPRE Kent. These strongly demonstrate the community’s strength of feeling about this proposal – thank you to everyone who wrote. The objections will be presented to SDC’s Cabinet who are meeting to discuss the proposed disposal report on 15th July. A detailed article has also been published online by the Kent Messenger.
As you may recall, earlier this month the Finance and Investment Committee decided they were currently unable to support the disposal report and requested that they reconsider it at their next meeting in early September.
We are continuing to work behind the scenes ahead of the Cabinet meeting, with District Councillors and Fawkham Parish Council speaking to members of the Cabinet to make sure they are aware of the issues with this proposal, including Small Grains protection under the Neighbourhood Plan as a designated open space, and that FPC has requested it be transferred to us under the Community Asset Transfer process. We have not, as yet, heard anything back from SDC on that request which was submitted over a month ago, but our District Councillors have pressed SDC for an update on FPC’s request.
We will continue keep you updated.
