Small Grains update

Last night’s SDC Finance and Investment Committee meeting decided they were not in a position to recommend to Cabinet the proposal to disposal of any of the sites at this time, as they felt they had insufficient information presented to them and that Parish Councils had not been given sufficient time to consider the proposals.
However, this Committee has an advisory role only and does not make the decision – that will be made by the Cabinet. The disposal proposals will still go to Cabinet at their meeting on 15th July. We need to continue to present our case for transferring Small Grains to the Parish Council and will take steps to do so in conjunction with our District Councillors.
Thank you to all those who wrote to SDC objecting to this – 78 residents wrote in, which is a fantastic number, and a letter was signed by 34 local children. FPC contacted CPRE Kent and they also objected.
It’s still not too late to object – the consultation doesn’t end until 12th June so please write in if you haven’t already. Our previous Facebook and website posts give further details on this.
We’d like to thank our three District Councillors who submitted a strong objection and also our KCC Member for objecting.
District Cllr Sean Malone is a member of the Committee which met last night and he did an excellent job in presenting our case. We will continue our work on this ahead of the Cabinet meeting in July.
