Since our last update, Fawkham Parish Council has been working on a business case to present to Sevenoaks District Council detailing why we feel Small Grains amenity open space should be transferred to FPC through a community asset transfer, or CAT.
A CAT is a nationwide process through which a local authority may dispose of land or buildings at less than market value if they can show that doing so will result in local improvements to social, economic or environmental well-being. FPC believes there will be social, economic and environmental well-being benefits from such a transfer of Small Grains, especially when compared to a disposal for development purposes, and that is what our business case is trying to demonstrate.
The timescale for a decision is not known although, as mentioned in our last update, the issue of the disposal of Small Grains will be discussed at SDC’s next Finance and Investment Advisory committee on the 2nd of September. We will update you further following that.
